06/04/2007 18:40 ABKHAZIA, SUKHUM The Caucasian Forum circulated an address to the Abkhaz authorities, which called on them to intensify the process of acquiring citizenship of Abkhazia in Turkey, where half-million Abkhaz Diaspora lives. With this request the Diaspora will appeal to the President Sergei Bagapsh during his visit to Turkey, to be held from April 21-25. "At a time when contacts between the Diaspora and the Caucasus are becoming increasingly active, when economic and cultural cooperation is established, the issue of independence of Abkhazia takes particular value for us", notes the statement. Note that previously the Parliament of Abkhazia adopted a law on citizenship. All ethnic Abkhaz and Abaza, wherever they may live, are citizens of Abkhazia. The Abkhaz Diaspora in Turkey insists that the process of obtaining Abkhaz passports must be technically established in the Turkish Republic. The Caucasian Forum notes that the issue of national passports is of the greatest importance in the Diaspora. "Diaspora should participate in the rebuilding of its country. It should have equal rights with all the citizens of Abkhazia. This is also important for the conservation and sustainable development of our independent state. The whole world must know that the citizens of Abkhazia are not only 300,000 people living in Abkhazia, but also all the Abkhaz, living abroad", noted in circulation. The Caucasian Forum reminds about the tragedy of the second half of the nineteenth century, when 90% of the Abkhaz were expelled from Abkhazia. Therefore, the Caucasian Forum notes, citizenship means restoration of historical justice. It is also noted that the independence of Abkhazia will be a new impetus to the return of the Diaspora and will deepen the irreversible process of creating a free State in Abkhazia. Diaspora believes that the attainment will greatly enhance historical and social connections of people. "Just as we fought for the freedom of Abkhazia, we are ready to fight for the future of our country", written in circulation."Since that black day when we were expelled from our land, we sought and lived to see our homeland and to be able to live there. Our ancestors did not live to see this, but we can be proud that we have our country", says the Caucasian Forum. ’Today we can say that we did not lose our land. Hence, today, a new creative process of regaining our country should start", notes the circulation. The Caucasian Forum requests the President and the new Parliament to support the Diaspora in receiving citizenship of Abkhazia. The Caucasian Forum is an organization of young generation of the Caucasian Diaspora in Turkey. |
